Anti Slip Treads was approached by Swindon Borough Council as a timber footbridge used by pedestrians was rotting. The council wanted to replace the bridge structure and walkway surface with a material that would not rot like timber, but still retained the rural feel of the bridge.
Polydeck recommended the use of its 12mm Boardwalk Panels as they would ensure the walkway surface was slip resistant and safe to use for all walkers in all weathers.
Non-slip Panels from Anti-Slip Treads
The panels are able to span a distance of 400mm centres and achieve a load-bearing capacity of 5kN per SqM, which was well within the design criteria of the bridge. The panels are constructed from a non-rotting GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) material and contain an integral anti-slip aggregate which makes the surface non slip and safe to walk on.
Polydeck Boardwalk panels are also made to look exactly like timber, with a wood grain effect moulded into the surface pattern. Our specialists recommended full width panels, sealing each joint to ensure that no water would drip onto the time sub-structure which could cause future issues.
Swindon Borough Council chose to have the panels supplied in a pale birch colour so that it would match the rest of the bridge’s rustic aesthetic. The 12mm Boardwalk panels were screwed into the timbers and sealed to prevent any water ingress.
Anti Slip Treads carried out a quick and efficient service, completing the project in just one day, ensuring that the impact on the general public was as minimal as possible. Our specialists approach each project with the same professional, high standard of work and meticulous attention to detail.
